About Larry Burklow Jr
How Larry Burklow Jr Helps Families Downsize with Dignity
Larry Burklow Jr. brings over 30 years of experience in sales, real estate, and consulting to the complex world of senior housing transitions. He has built a career on helping people make confident decisions during major life milestones. As a former licensed Realtor, he held the SRES (Seniors Real Estate Specialist) designation, specifically training to manage the logistical and emotional challenges families face when moving aging parents.
While his professional background is rooted in strategy and credentialed expertise, his book, Downsize with Dignity, focuses on the deeply personal side of the journey. Larry helps families navigate the emotional hurdles of downsizing, ensuring that the move to a smaller home or senior living is handled with grace and respect.
Lived Experience: Because I’ve Been There Too
I don’t just write about this, I have walked several different paths of this journey with my own family. These experiences taught me that while every situation is unique, the need for dignity is universal:
- Proactive Planning: I helped my father and step-mother navigate the traditional downsizing process as they aged.
- Emergency Transition: After my mother’s house burned down, I supported her move into a tiny house on my sister’s land, a creative solution for a sudden life change.
- The Caregiver Pivot: I’ve seen the “reverse” move firsthand, where family members sell their homes to move in with aging parents to provide care after health concerns and frequent falls.
The idea for Downsize with Dignity | Helping Your Parents Transition didn’t come from a business plan.
It grew out of real stories from friends and neighbors who shared their struggles, frustrations, and heartache while helping their aging parents move. Their experiences became the inspiration for a practical, compassionate guide designed to help families handle one of life’s toughest seasons with patience, humor, and understanding.
Are You Struggling to Start the Conversation?
Most families get stuck before they even pack a single box. The tension usually starts at the kitchen table.
I’ve written a special Free Resource (it’s not even in the book!) specifically to help you navigate that first difficult talk. It features the story of “Margaret and the Teapot”, a situation many families find themselves in.
